Urtica dioica (Stinging nettle)
Leaf is a nutritive tonic for allergies, arthritis and skin conditions. The seeds are an adrenal restorative and the root is a prostate tonic. Plants spread through rhizomes and can end up forming a large patch. Urtica means to sting in Latin and dioica means in Greek dioecious refers to the male and female reproductive organs being on different individuals. Stinging nettle is a great spring tonic and a general detoxifier. Applied topically, the nettle leaves help with arthritis and rheumatism. Nettle also reduces the urinary frequency and waking up in the middle of the night to urinate (nocturia).
