Myrica cerifera (Bayberry)

Bayberry, also commonly named as candleberry, southern wax myrtle or tallow shrub, is used in candle-making and for its medicinal properties. The wax was extracted by boiling the berries and skimming off the floating residue, then those fats would be boiled again and then strained. Bayberry has a long history of medicinal use for different ailments like dysentery, diarrhea, fever. It is used to increase the circulation and stimulate sweating.
