Hydrastis Canadensis (Goldenseal)

Goldenseal was used widely by native North American tribes and is still a very important herb in Western herbalism. It has a tonic effect on the mucous membrane and is therefore really helpful in treating digestive ailments. It also treats sinus disorders and has antimicrobial properties. The roots are the medicinal part of the plant and they are harvested in autumn. Traditionally goldenseal was taking during labor to help with contractions which is why it should not be taken during pregnancy. Thrives in a moist, partly shaded environment.
