Filipendula ulmaris (Meadowsweet)

Filipendula ulmaris has a very long history of herbal use as is it one of the most sacred herbs of the Druids. The flower heads of meadowsweet contain salicylic acid like the modern aspirin and therefore also provide anti-inflammatory benefits and relieves the pain of rheumatism in muscle and joints. The word aspirin actually comes from the old botanic name for meadowsweet “Spiraea”. It�s also being one of the best digestive remedies available as it protects and soothes the mucous lining of the stomach and intestines, reducing excess acidity, relieving nausea, and treats diarrhea.
