Alnus rubra, a native tree from the Northwestern Pacific region, gets its name red alder from the brownish-red inner bark, which was used by Native Americans to make red dyes. Red alder grows well in disturbed soils and has numerous medicinal benefits from aiding digestion, relieving skin inflammation, and supporting immune cells. The parts used are the bark, catkins, and leaves.
